Please keep in mind that many clients are very conservative and choose a brow that they feel comfortable with. The style of the brow is ultimately the clients preference. As a technician I love tattooing elaborate brows, but they are not for everyone.
Brows should look proportional from the front as well as from the side.

Why does ink look so much darker immediately after the procedure but heals much lighter?

The iron in the pigment ink when exposed to oxygen turns darker because of the process called oxidation. Colors lighten up about 20% on most clients. So be prepared for everything to look very dark and do not panic!
